Rotherham remembers the fallen: PICTURES

ROTHERHAM paid tribute to its lost sons and daughters as Remembrance Day was marked with a parade and services at both Rotherham Minster and Clifton Park’s war memorial.

More than 400 people observed two minutes’ silence at 11am at the Memorial Garden just inside the park gates.

This year’s Remembrance events saw many young children joining their parents to pay tribute to parents and grandparents who fought in the many conflicts of the 20th century.

On Sunday, which was both Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, the annual Remembrance Parade was be led by the South Yorkshire Police band through the town centre, before a service at the Minster.

The parade included a civic party led by the Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr Dave Pickering, and featuring the Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, David Moody; the chief executive of Rotherham Borough Council, Martin Kimber;  council leader Roger Stone and John Bramah of the High Sheriff’s office.

Armed Forces and police cadets and Scouts also gave the parade a youthful feel, marching alongside representatives of the Royal British Legion, the Royal Signals, the 146 Field Company REME, the Royal Air Force Association and the St John Ambulance Brigade.
