Complaints about 101 service force police review

COMPLAINTS about the 101 service have prompted a review of how the public contacts South Yorkshire Police.

Police commissioner Dr Alan Billings announced the move after concerns about the amount of it takes to answer the non-emergency line.

He said: “It has become apparent that members of the public are not happy with the way in which they are asked to contact the police to report crime.

“The issue has been raised at the majority of meetings I have had with the public and has been the discussion of much debate on social media.

“I hear time and time again that people want to be able to contact the police in ways that suit them and that telephoning a number and being placed on hold is an inconvenience.”

Staffing levels and technology issues will be examined and focus groups comprising members of the public set up as part of the reivew.
