THANKS to a host of sponsors Wath is getting ready for a memorable Christmas lights switch-on.

Wath town centre will be bathed in light from 4pm on Thursday thanks to sponsorship from Holiday Inn Express, Next, Keepmoat and Thetford.

Wath councillor Alan Atkin said: “Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the partnership team, we’ll be bringing a Christmas to remember to Wath.

“We’re hoping to get hundreds of people along to enjoy the festivities with mulled wine and homemade mince pies, served by students from Dearne Valley College, who are also organising free Christmas nail art, as well as a prize penalty shootout competition and children’s activities.

"In addition, Wath Victoria Children’s Centre will be doing face painting, there will be music and carols and the traditional festive Christmas sleigh from the Mexborough and District Lions.”

Joyce Maleham, secretary of the partnership, thanked all those who supported the cause.

“It’s great to see the community come together to create such a wonderful event,” she said.

“I’d especially like to thank the sponsors of the event, our three ward councillors and Rotherham Investment and Development Office, for approaching the businesses and making the donations possible.

“Hopefully, the entire community will turn out for the evening which will be a fitting tribute to all the hard work people have put in.”
