Castle's "fool school" could be jest-er the job to entertain kids

STAFF at Conisbrough Castle are hoping a new “fool school” will be jest-er the job for visitors over the bank holiday weekend.

Schools may be out for another week but castle owners English Heritage are inviting visitors to enrol in some alternative education this weekend at a Medieval Fool School.

From tomorrow until Monday, junior jesters will be trained in foolish etiquette with interactive workshops and the chance to perfect juggling and diabolo skills.

In addition to the tomfoolery there'll be interactive plays and Have-A-Go-Archery, plus all the facilities of the recently renovated castle telling the story of its past through larger-than-life digital characters.

Site manager Jessica Shepherd said: “Rarely is school a place for mischief, jesting and acting the fool but over the next few days we'll be encouraging our visitors to do just that at our Medieval Fool School.

“As well as exercising minds, families can also take advantage of our large castle grounds — a great place to run around and blow off the cobwebs before the school term starts.”

Conisbrough Castle (pictured) will be open each day of the event from 10am until 6pm with the Medieval Fool School being in class from 11am until 5pm.

Admission to the Castle and event is £4.80 for adults, £2.90 for children and free entry for  English Heritage Members.
