Anti-fracking group opposes Rotherham drill plans

AN ANTI-fracking campaigner this week vowed to lobby and oppose plans to drill for gas in Rotherham.

The Advertiser reported last week how the Government had issued exploration licences for land coming almost all of Rotherham, despite protesters having concerns over environmental risks.

And David Burley of campaign group Frack Free South Yorkshire said this week: “We will be lobbying and opposing all unconventional gas proposals in our region.

“Recognising that people need to hear both sides of the argument, we will work with other groups to raise awareness in our communities and explain what fracking means — to enable more people to come to their own considered views.”

Any fracking — short for hydraulic fracturing — earmarked for Rotherham would need planning permission from the borough council before going ahead.
