Hunt for masked supermarket raider

A BALACLAVA-clad raider fled with a “small amount” of cash after threatening two off-licence staff at knifepoint.

The masked man entered the Booze Barn store, on Rawmarsh Hill, Parkgate, at around 1.45pm on Friday before demanding cash.

A police spokesman revealed: “A man carrying a knife and wearing a balaclava, entered the premises, when it was empty of customers.

“The man approached two members of staff, a man and a woman, in an aggressive manner, brandishing the knife and made demands for money.  

“The suspect eventually fled from the store after a small amount of money was handed over.”

The culprit is described as being in his late teens to mid twenties and was of slim to medium build.

He was wearing a dark blue Adidas top, a balaclava, camouflage or patterned gloves and dark jogging bottoms at the time of the incident and spoke with a local accent.

The police spokesman added: “No one was hurt during the incident but staff members were left very shaken by their ordeal.” 

Detectives want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and believe they witnessed the incident or saw anyone in the area matching the description.
