Wentworth MP steps in to cover MacShane's patch

STAFF at the constituency office of former Rotherham MP Denis MacShane are to keep shop while his replacement is elected.

John Healey, MP for Wentworth and Dearne, will work with staff to try and answer all queries which would previously have been directed to Mr MacShane, who officially resigned from the House of Commons today after revelations about illegitimate expenses claims.

Mr Healey said: “I’m working with Denis’ staff to make sure there is still a service and support for constituents who need help or information during the gap before a by-election, when people in the central Rotherham constituency will have the chance to elect their new MP.”

Mr Healey will keep an MP’s advice surgery already scheduled for 9.30am on Saturday, November 10 in Rotherham Town Hall.

Rotherham constituents seeking information or advice from an MP can still telephone the office on 01709 837 577 and staff will do their best to assist.
