Paul takes top spot

TEENAGER Paul Whiting claimed his first racing title — proving that small can be beautiful.

Racing his 80cc Honda, the 19-year-old from Micklebring, took on riders with engines up to 500cc in the Preston and District Club single cylinder post-classic series over in Lancashire.

And after the weekend's final round at the Three Sisters circuit near Wigan, the apprectice design engineer, made no mistake to hang on to his lead and complete the campaign on top of the rostrum.

Said dad John: "It was the smallest bike in the class but Paul rode well throughout and was 13 points clear going into the last two rounds at the weekend.

"He knew that if he played it safe then it would be good enough and two third places made certain."

Paul and John are now weighting up their options for next season.
