Age UK ready to help elderly beat the cold

ELDERLY people with fresh winter worries after the onset of cold weather this week are being urged to get in touch with Age UK Rotherham for help.

The charity has a range of free tips and support to help older people stay healthy during the cold weather, including includes information packs about how to keep yourself warm, tips and advice on heating your home effectively and keeping the cost down and special “Keep Warm” packs.

Chief executive Lesley Dabell said: “We know that older people are more vulnerable at this time of year because of the cold weather.

“Even in a mild winter there are more deaths in our older population because of the cold. “We also know that older people are worrying more and more about the cost of heating their homes and sometimes do not understand what help is available or how to make the most economic use of their heating systems.

“The range of support we can offer this winter has grown due to different initiatives that are available and we would encourage older people to contact us and make use of this free help, if they think they can benefit from it.”

Among Age UK’s services are practical handyman help to make sure understand your heating system and are energy efficient to maximise the warmth and minimise the cost and advice and information about additional payments and entitlements available for older people including Warm Home Discount and small grants to help with bills.
