MALTBY MURDER PROBE: Family pleads for information

THE family of the 45-year-old man who died after an incident at a Maltby pub have paid tribute to a “popular, lively and successful family man.”

Dad-of-three Robert Hurdley diedy at Rotherham Hospital after an altercation at the Don Jon Hotel at around 10pm on Sunday.

The optician and popular rugby coach, from Dinnington, suffered a serious head injury in the incident which resulted in the arrest of a 30-year-old man on suspicion of murder.

In a statement issued this afternoon, Robert’s family said: “Our family have been devastated by the loss of Robert.

“He was a popular, lively and successful family man and the father of three beautiful young children.

“He had spent the day coaching the Dinnington Boys’ Rugby Team and shared that evening having a drink with friends.

“He is deeply loved by us all.

“We would ask that anyone with information please contact the police.”

Officers investigating the incident are appealing for anyone who was in the Don Jon pub or nearby pubs on Sunday evening, to contact them by dialling 101, quoting incident number 1242 of October 14.
