Sporting chance for disabled

DISABLED people can launch into a sporty new year thanks to free sessions in the heart of Rotherham.

Cricket, swimming, athletics and rugby are on the agenda in the Active Ability programme being run by Rotherham Borough Council and partners DC Leisure.

The athletics and rugby, run by Rotherham Harriers and the Titans respectively, takes place indoors at Thomas Rotherham College and offer a chance to taste both sports in a fun environment.

Rotherham Leisure Complex is the venue for both the cricket and the swimming initiatives.

The cricket coaching will be delivered by Sheffield United Spinners, who specialise in disabled cricket, with an opening to play the game competitively through the Chance to Shine programme an added attraction.

The swimming offers a chance to gain confidence in the water and an insight into competitive swimming.
