TV licence reduction for the blind

BLIND people in Rotherham are being urged to claim a 50 per cent reduction in the cost of their TV licence.

The concession also applies to people who live with someone who is severely sight impaired.

TV Licensing has joined up with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) and other organisations to get across the message to people who don’t know about the cost reduction.

A total of 176 people in Rotherham are registered as blind and could apply for the concession which also applies to live-in carers or family members.

A blind concession TV licence costs £72.75 for colour and £24.50 for black and white.

Matthew Thompson, a spokesperson for TV Licensing, said: “We are pleased to be working with RNIB to ensure everyone eligible for the concession is claiming the discount they are entitled to.”

Jamie Dormandy, head of customer service and support at RNIB, said: “Some people with severe sight loss, and their families, may not be aware that they are eligible to claim a 50 per cent reduction in the cost of their TV licence.”
