Rate Rotherham’s stop smoking services

CURRENT and ex-smokers are being called upon to give their opinions on stop smoking services in South Yorkshire to help shape the type and range of support provided to smokers throughout the region.

In Rotherham there are approximately 47,000 smokers — the equivalent of more than one in five of the adult population.

However, in some areas of the borough the number of smokers is far higher.

Council officials said significant progress had been made over the past few years, particularly in reducing local smoking in pregnancy rates but more still needs to be done to reduce the impact of smoking on health and mortality.

Rotherham Borough Council and other Yorkshire councils have launched a consultation running until July 26 to determine the priorities for  future services.

The council’s Cabinet member for health and wellbeing, Cllr Ken Wyatt, said: “We are determined to improve the support that is available across the region to help smokers stop or at least consider stopping.”
