Blanket boost for Rotherham homeless

Dozens of homeless people in Rotherham received a warming boost in the shape of much needed fleece blankets.

Westgate-based charity The Lighthouse also gave out gel hand warmers donated to Green Pastures Housing.

They had been given to Green Pastures by Giving World Online, an organisation through which companies can donate it to people in need.

The Lighthouse distributed the blankets and hand warmers to needy people in the town.

Dan Russell of Green Pastures, said: “We were extremely grateful to receive a consignment of new fleece blankets and hand warmers from Giving World Online.

“We work to help house the homeless and support rough sleepers and the majority of the blankets and hand warmers went to our partner in Rotherham, The Lighthouse, and they were all distributed before the recent cold snap.

“Some other blankets provided much needed extra warmth for needy pensioners in Clay Cross, Derbyshire.”

Giving World spokesman Andrew Punshon said: “This will hopefully help a large number of people and we appreciate how hard the recession and its aftermath has hit so many people.

“If any businesses in the area have any surplus stock they think we can use we urge them to contact us a soon as possible, there are so many people who need a helping hand.”
