FACTORY BLAZE: company thanks well-wishers

FIREFIGHTERS were still damping down this morning at the scene of a huge blaze which destroyed a Rotherham paper factory.

A crew was still pumping water into the ruined premises of Envelopemaster in Aldwarke to prevent the blaze which swept through the building on Tuesday night restarting.

A fire service spokesman said last night that investigators hoped to get into the wreckage today to begin looking into the cause of the fire but officials admitted this morning that it was still not possible to begin the investigation.

Night shift staff were evacuated safely late on Tuesday night as 60 firefighters fought the blaze.

Although the building was destroyed, firefighters have been praised for saving the neighbouring Candle Craft and Tech Spray premises just five metres away.

A statement posted on the company's website last night said: “On behalf of the board of directors and all the employees of Envelopemaster could we take this opportunity to thank everyone for their kind words of support.

“We have tried to reply to everyone but the sheer number of well-wishers has meant this hasn’t been possible—please accept our most sincere thanks and gratitude.
