Festive Celebration at Rotherham Minster

A PACKED Rotherham Minster rang to the sound of Christmas classics as young and old gathered for a stirring seasonal celebration.

The Community Christmas Celebration event curated by RCAT featured students from the college’s Ofsted performing arts department as well as a schools and community performance groups from across Rotherham.  

There were classics such as Ruldolph, The Red Nosed Reindeer from Maltby Manor Choir and a sign language version of Do They Know It’s Christmas from Dalton Foljambe School.

Badsley Moor Lane Infants put on a nativity play and Oakwood School pupils sang Hallelujah and River of Dreams.

Rotherham Music Service students performed on cello and brass, while Maltby Crags School came up with their own Christmas Medley.

The audience was in full voice singing along to Winter Wonderland and Frosty the Snowman.

Student Emily Mae, who sang in the Rotherham Academy Choir, said: “I really enjoyed the concert.

“It was really nice singing in the Minster the building’s acoustics really suited the performance.”

Lesley Gray, from Dinnington said: “My daughter is studying Performing Arts and I love coming to all her shows.

“Today’s show was great and it really got me in a festive mood.”

Martyn Howells, RCAT’s head of performing arts, added: “It was a fantastic event that brought together the community and showcased the talents of all the performers.”
