Star-studded cricket raises thousands for Hospice

THE celebrities came out for a charity cricket tournament which raised thousands of pounds for Rotherham Hospice.

Teams lined up at Rotherham Town CC’s Clifton Lane home on Sunday for the Rotherham Hospice T20 tournament, which was won by the hosts, who triumphed over opposition including Rotherham Titans and an All-Stars team.

The All Stars featured the likes of World Cup referee Howard Webb, Paul Warne, former Millers keepers Andy Warrington, Bobby Mimms and Billy Mercer in their line-up, alongside the Advertiser’s Charlie Graves and Andrew Mosley.

Town edged out the All Stars, as did the Titans, before the cricketers beat the rugby players in the deciding game.

Organiser, former Millers’ star John Breckin, said: “The town of Rotherham has received some negative press coverage in the past, but I believe we have plenty to be extremely proud of. It is fantastic that the sporting community of Rotherham has come together to support our town’s hospice.”

A raffle and stalls around the ground, plus a donation from Barclays Bank helped to further swell the funds raised for the hospice.
