Hunt for John Heald continues

MURDER suspect John Heald was still on the run today as more than 150 police officers continued combing Rotherham for him.

More than 200 possible sightings have been reported to the police since they announced a manhunt for the 53-year-old, who is suspected of killing a Bridlington landlady on Friday.

Areas of Wath, Swinton, Brampton-Bierlow and Mexborough have been searched for the fugitive.

Our map shows locations in the ongoing search for Heald, who is also wanted wanted in connection with what police described as “a targeted, serious sexual offence” in Sheffield on Sunday, July 13. 

Police have announced a £5,000 reward for information leading to Heald’s arrest also launched an appeal on the BBC show Crimewatch on Tuesday, which leading officers said had led to several new lines of enquiry.

Rotherham District Commander Chief Supt Jason Harwin said: “Mr Harwin added: “Investigations will continue until we don’t believe he’s in this area. “There’s still no suggestion to say he’s anywhere else.”

Heald is described as 5ft 11ins tall, of slim build, with blue eyes and short mousey brown hair.

His right ear is pierced and he has tattoos on his hands and arms — dots on the knuckles of both hands as well as a horse on his left hand and a mermaid and an eagle on his right arm.

Anyone spotting Heald is asked to call the police on 999.
