Three saved following arson attack at Mexborough flat

Crews from Dearne and Edlington stations were called to the ground floor property on Hirst Gate in Mexborough at 10.30am.

A fire service spokesman confirmed the blaze, which started in the kitchen area, had been started deliberately.

No-one was home at the time but three people from a neighbouring flat were led to safety through the smoke.

Other residents upstairs were told to stay put while the firefighters dealt with the incident.
