New policy has stopped us recycling

Sir – Further to the many letters of last week regarding recycling of cardboard, I have to admit since the change in policy brought in by Rotherham Borough Council we have in our household stopped recycling cardboard products which we did avidly before the

We already recycle our garden waste, bottles and cans and on top of that we have a large bag at the side of our dustbin for the numerous plastic containers that we end up with each week which when full we take to a local recycling point, so to ask us to store cardboard under our blue box (and also to fold it down to a specific size) is a bit much – not only will it become soggy it will without a doubt start to litter streets – which after the amount of cans and bottles that are left on the road each week after the re-cycling collection (that we are left to pick up) is not acceptable.

What will happen at Christmas when we all have a mountain of cardboard to dispose of? I suppose we will have to start taking it ourselves to the local dump site, even though we pay our community charge for the disposal of rubbish.

Would it not be possible for the council to issue each house with one of the small blue wheelie bins that I believe people in Sheffield have for cardboard?

I know we would prefer not to have a further bin to store but it would solve the problem and also keep people recycling, or would it be easier to simply return to how it has been in the past cardboard and garden waste in the same green bin.
