Millers on capital mission

ROTHERHAM United bounce back into action this weekend on a mission to climb off the bottom of the Championship.

Without a win from the opening five league matches, they need a three-pointer to kick start their season as they face up to a September run of three away games out of four.

That starts with visits to Charlton Athletic on Saturday and Brighton on Tuesday, both of whom have enjoyed decent starts.

Cardiff sit fifth after an unbeaten start while Charlton are eighth.

Rotherham will be refreshed by three new signings. Goalkeeper Lee Camp is pressing for a start after joining on a permanent deal from Bournemouth while Norwich City loan pair Tony Andreu and Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe will also be in contention.

Manager Steve Evans: “I want my team to display the type of performance I can be proud of and we've not been doing that recently.

“We need to do a lot more and thankfully there's a few teams still close to us in the league table because they can't win either.”

The break has allowed time for players to get to fitness, including defender Joe Mattock and Lee Frecklington.

He sat out the last game, a 3-1 defeat to Fulham, and has since been handed the captaincy in place of Greg Halford, who has looked out of sorts in recent matches.

Evans said: “We need a new captain who epitomises us. There were two or three candidates and after speaking to the coaching team they were unanimous about Lee Frecklington.”
