Laying down the law!

LAW students have had a taste of life at work thanks to a partnership with a Rotherham solicitors.

Howells Solicitors has opened its doors to 24 Thomas Rotherham College students, giving each a taste of the legal profession through work experience over the past six months.

Andrew Penney, course leader for law at TRC, said: “We are very grateful for the successful partnership TRC law department have been able to form with Howells over the last academic year.

Students have found the work experience to be very rewarding and a fantastic first taste of the legal profession.”

TRC A-Level Law student Amy Saxby won first prize in an extended writing competition to secure her week-long placement with Howells.

She said: “My work experience at Howells Solicitors was extremely beneficial and helped me realise that I definitely want to continue with Law as a future career path.

“The experience has encouraged me to choose law at university and I would like to thank Howells for being so wonderful and letting me work with them.”

Mary Rose Macadam, partner and solicitor at Howells, said: “At a time when competition for university placements and employment is increasing, it is important for students to gain as much experience as possible in order to stand out from the crowd and we are happy to have the opportunity to help local students gain that advantage.

“We look forward to continuing this relationship with the college.”
