Millers close in on targets

ROTHERHAM United are getting closer to finalising deals with up to four new players and expect to land some of their targets next week.

But, says chairman Tony Stewart, the list does not include Blackburn Rovers midfielder Chris Taylor, who was linked with the club this week.

After days of negotiations, manager Steve Evans is closing in on the men he wants to bolster his squad for another challenging season in the Championship.

No immediate developments are expected but by the time the first team squad reports back for training on Tuesday the club hopes to be making real headway.

Taylor (28), who is out of contract at Blackburn, is not said to be on the radar, nor is another rumoured target, Jean Corentin, a young striker with French club Troyes.

Mr Stewart has said that the club is after players who can “hit the ground running” and is optimistic that patient work in the transfer market will pay off.

He told the Advertiser: “We are well on the way to completing verbally arranged deals we can put into contract and hopefully we will be in a position to complete two, three or four next week, although there's never a done deal until it's signed for.”
