Former Mayor found not guilty of sexual assault

THE former Mayor of Rotherham, Barry Dodson, has been found not guilty of sexual assault.

A jury sitting at Sheffield Crown Court returned its verdict this afternoon, following a three-day trial.

Mr Dodson had stood accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in the grounds of Boston Castle, off Moorgate, in 1987.

Earlier today, however, his defence solicitor, Ms Louise Sweet, said: “Not a single person from any stage in his life has a bad word to say about him."
