Residents to have say on £1 million windfall

A DEARNE VALLEY village has been given £1 million and wants you to have your say on how to spend it.

Thurnscoe is one of 150 areas around the country to be granted Big Lottery funding which aims to develop talent and make lasting changes in communities.

Residents are invited to The Ship WMC from 6pm until 9pm on November 14 to learn more about Big Local scheme and what is happening in the area.

A spokeswoman for Big Local said: “The event is the second of three events that will give you a chance to find out more about Big Local.

“Once again Olympian Amy Oliver will be attending and will present cheques to the successful applicants who have already applied to Thurnscoe’s Big Local grant scheme.

“The Big Local group will be providing free entertainment, food and refreshments. All they are asking is for all attendees to share their views about how they would make Thurnscoe a better place.

“If you complete a form you will be entered in a free raffle.”

Big Local has been running for around 10 years and aims to achieve lasting change in up to 150 areas around England.

It provides a mixture of funding, finance and support and helps people to make their home towns better places to live, now and in the future.

The previous event on October 17 at Thurnscoe’s Coronation Club, saw cheques for £500 presented to Dearne Archery Group, Station House, Hill Parents Group, Windsor Court Parents Group, Roots and Shoot and Houghton Road Community Centre.

Groups 2 Act Theatre Company and the Hickleton Youth Project provided entertainment on the night.
