Titans ponder Sheffield move

ROTHERHAM Titans will move out of town and relocate to the new 26-acre revamped Don Valley site in Sheffield – but only if the price is right.

The Clifton Lane club are tight-lipped over their involvement in the £40 million project, spearheaded by former Sports Minister Richard Caborn. It involves flattening Don Valley Stadium and developing a new centre of sports excellence, tied into the two city universities.

Part of the project is a new, state-of-the-art 10,000 capacity rugby studium which, if the plans come to fruition, will be used by the nomadic Sheffield Eagles and also the Titans.

While they haven’t commented on their involvement, it is understood that the cautious Titans have been included in the inital consulatations.

But the club will be reluctant to make any concrete commitment until details of the project funding are finalised. The Clifton Lane club won’t be able to make a serious financial commitment, which is a similar situation with the Eagles.
