£200,000 boost for Rotherham town centre

The town will be given £100,000 by the Government to put in place initiatives to help bring more shoppers into the town centre, with the sum to be matched by British Land to make a total of £200,000.

The Advertiser reported last week that Rotherham was among 15 new Portas Pilot areas across the UK which will benefit from funding.

Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce welcomed the news of the investment this week.

Executive director Andrew Denniff said: “This is a welcome investment into Rotherham town centre and, with the matched funding from British Land and the potential to link any expenditure into local businesses within the regional economy, there is an excellent opportunity to enhance the value of the initial spend. 

“It is important that, whatever projects are undertaken under the scheme, we try to maximise the benefits for our local businesses.”
