Impatient drivers to be curbed by new bollards
Aston-cum-Aughton Parish Council has teamed up with Rotherham Borough Council to install up to four bollards at the junction of Aston Way and Main Street, in Aughton.
Cllr Lyndsay Pitchley, parish council chairman, said drivers often mounted the kerb at the junction to turn left towards Aston Academy instead of waiting in the queue of traffic turning right towards Rotherham.

“There is a nursery just up the road and then there is Aston Academy as well.
“Drivers are doing this during the morning rush-hour when there’s a lot of children about.”
Members of the parish council voted unanimously in support of asking for funding for the bollards at a meeting on January 12.

Cllr Pitchley said the bollards could be installed within three months, subject to final approval of funding from Rotherham Borough Council.
She said: “What’s actually happening is traffic is backing up along Aston Way and people are mounting the kerb to turn left.
“But people are also mounting the kerb, turning left and then turning around in the pub car park so they are actually adding to the delays.

“Everybody is just thinking of themselves and if it was one of their children who was knocked down by a car mounting the kerb they would be up in arms.”
