Millers land Joe Newell from Peterborough United

ROTHERHAM United have completed the signing of 22-year-old left back Joe Newell from League One side Peterborough United for an undisclosed fee.

Newell adds further versatility to the Millers squad and can operate at either left back or left midfield.

He played in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Bundesliga side FSV Mainz, starting in defence before moving on to the wing.

Manager Steve Evans told the club website: "It may have taken us the best part of four weeks to come to an agreement with Peterborough United to secure the transfer of young Joe Newell, but I am delighted with the deal.

“Towards the end of last week both clubs were very close to an agreement and this gave comfort for Posh Chairman Darragh MacAnthony to sanction the lad spending some time with us, which in turn allowed the fine detail between both clubs to be agreed.

“This young man has considerable experience in the Championship for one being so young and is comfortable in any position on the left hand side of the pitch, and indeed centrally. Last season he was outstanding and I am led to believe he swept the boards for every Peterborough United player of the year award that was on offer.

“Today we have signed another young player to add to those already recruited and for me they blend fantastically well with the experienced lads we have brought together."
