Tesco recruitment well under way

TESCO’S new town centre superstore (above) is set to provide the town with 100 new jobs and recruitment for the roles is already underway.

Over 300 interviews have already been carried out as Tesco Extra store manager Michael Cooke looks to assemble his team ahead of the new outlet’s opening on November 13.

Staff from the current Tesco store on Forge Island — set to close on November 12 — have filled 287 vacancies, including 25 staff that have collectively worked for Tesco for 625 years between them.

A further 15 positions have been filled by long term unemployed job seekers in partnership with the local Job Centre Plus.

Mr Cooke himself has worked for Tesco for over 25 years and recently relocated from the Tesco Extra store in Chesterfield to lead the team at the new Rotherham branch.

He said: “The response we’ve had to our recruitment drive has been fantastic and it’s been great that we have been able to interview so many local people

“All of my new Tesco colleagues will receive training and opportunities to progress through the company as I have done.

“We’re all really looking forward to opening our doors for the first time and to continue to serve the Rotherham community from our new store.”
