Police seize giant haul of illegal cigarettes and drugs

SEVEN men were arrested after half a million contraband cigarettes were seized from a house in Darfield.

The haul came as part of a police operation to tackle drugs and organised crime which saw a similar number found at a house in Barnsley and 4kg of heroin at a Grimethorpe house.

Two men — Luke Morrison (28), of Honeywell, Barnsley, and Simon O’Hara (48), of Grimethorpe — have been charged and remanded in custody after the raids last Wednesday.

Both face charges of conspiracy to supply heroin.

Det Chief Insp Mark Wilkie said: “This was a very successful operation, which is part of our commitment to target criminals who make others’ lives a misery.”
