Helicopter part of drugs raid search

A HELICOPTER seen hovering over Mexborough last Wednesday evening (April 8) for an hour was part of a drugs raid by police, the Advertiser has learnt.

People watched the helicopter hover over the Schofield Street area from around 8pm.

Despite frequent enquiries to South Yorkshire Police, the force did not provide any information on the incident to the Advertiser.

But a plea for information via Twitter revealed that the helicopter was searching for someone who had fled after the police operation.

People asked a police inspector about the incident at last Thursday’s PACT meeting in the town where limited details were given out by a senior officer.
