Four suspended in Labour CSE scandal

LABOUR has suspended four members pending a party investigation into the child sex exploitation scandal.

Cllrs Roger Stone, Ann Russell and Shaukat Ali and former councillor Jahangir Akhtar will all face questioning.

Cllr Stone quit as Rotherham Borough Council leader minutes after last week’s report revealed 1,400 children were victims between 2007 and 2013.

A party spokesman said: “As Ed Miliband made clear, large numbers of young in Rotherham were systematically abused and then let down by those who should have protected them.

“It cannot be allowed to stand.”
