Carers 'supermarket' set to go online

ORGANISATIONS which support adults are being invited to take part in a new on-line "social care supermarket."

The Doncaster Council project aims to bring services together by providing a website with advice, information and products.

The site, called connecttosupport will feature companies who provide traditional social care services including residential care, domiciliary care and day care, as well as information about personal assistants, housing, transport and leisure.

And in preparation for the launch later this year, the council is inviting organisations to attend a free course next Tuesday.

Cllr Patricia Schofield, Cabinet member for adults and health said: “We are keen that this website reflects the wide range of support available across Doncaster from a helping hand with the gardening once a month through to the installation of adaptations and equipment within a resident’s home.”

As part of the project, organisations will be invited to set up their own on-line ‘store’.

The workshop next week will show people how to do this.

Cllr Scholfield added: “The workshop is aimed at organisations who provide support such as exercise groups, luncheon clubs, arts and crafts sessions or senior citizens social groups so that we can show them how they can set up their own store on connecttosupport and I encourage local groups to attend to find out how they can benefit.”
