Six held after Rotherham woman run down by car

SIX people were arrested after a hit-and-run which left a woman in hospital with a broken leg and a serious head injury.

The 22-year-old pedestrian was struck by a silver Toyota Yaris shortly after midnight on Tuesday as she walked along Eastwood Lane towards Rotherham College of Arts and Technology at about 12.20am. She landed in the road.

The driver of the vehicle, whose identity is currently unknown, failed to stop at the scene and the car was later found abandoned.

A police spokeswoman said: “The pedestrian suffered serious injuries, a fracture to the left leg and a head injury and she is currently being treated at Rotherham Hospital.

“It is reported that the Yaris failed to stop and police later traced this vehicle on Spring Street, Rotherham.”

Five men aged between 19 and 43, and a 17-year-old boy, have been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene after an accident.
