Reindeer riding back into town

SANTA has given his reindeer the day off so they can visit the boys, girls and grown-ups of Rotherham in one of the most anticipated events of the year.

The real reindeer, which have caused a flurry of excitement when they appeared in the borough in previous years, will be parading the town centre on Saturday from 12.45pm, before settling in the outdoor covered market until 3pm to meet all the children who they will be delivering presents to in a couple of weeks.

To complete the day, Santa will be in his grotto and there will be traditional musical entertainment by Thorpe Hesley Brass Band who will be performing on the parade as well as a static performance at the Gift Market on Effingham Street from 1.30pm until 2.30pm.

Shops in the town centre will be opening late each Thursday and there will be free parking all day on each Saturday in council-run car parks and all on-street parking bays.
