Foundation aiming to help keep Rotherham's pensioners warm

A CHARITY is urging older people to help other senior citizens cope with the winter weather by donating their government Winter Fuel Payments.

South Yorkshire Community Foundation is asking for donations to help the 14,500 Rotherham people thought to be struggling with fuel bills.

The foundation is asking anyone who has a Winter Fuel Payment they do not need, or who simply want to make a donation, to pass it on to needy old folk.

Donations can be posted to: Surviving Winter Appeal, South Yorkshire Community Foundation, 6 Leeds Road, Sheffield, S9 3TY.

Cheques should be made payable to South Yorkshire Community Foundation.

Alternatively, donations can be made via text to 70070 — using the prefix SWSY12 and the amount you would like to donate in your message — or via the SYCF web-site at www.sycf.org.uk.

Last year the appeal raised £15,000 to help with boiler repairs, assist with energy bills and the provision of items to keep people warm.

The foundation is also aiming to tackle the problem of isolation among older people who struggle to leave their homes during the winter.
