Dearne Valley revellers urged to respect those working throughout Christmas

POLICE are urging Christmas and new year revellers to extend seasonal goodwill to those who will be working throughout the festive period.

Taxi, drivers, bus drivers and people working in shops, bars and night clubs will all continue to graft as others take time out to enjoy the company of friends and relatives and the force wants them to be treated with the respect they deserve.

Supt Peter Norman said: “We want people to enjoy themselves but we also want them to behave responsibly.

“We obviously don’t want people to drink and drive and so if they use taxis or public transport we would encourage them to appreciate and respect the service these drivers and other staff provide.”

Supt Norman said that a failure to behave during the season’s celebrations could land some party-goers and revellers in hot water, adding: “However, if people are being drunk and disorderly or antisocial towards people they could be arrested by police and prosecuted.”
