Spotamo's Russian idea exchange helps development of smartphone app

A DEARNE Valley firm has been developing its smartphone app business by forging links with a Russian entrepreneur.

Spotamo Ltd, which is based at Century Business Centre in Manvers, has developed a free smartphone application that offers users discounts at local shops.

And after a business network meeting in Moscow, Spotamo has now hosted a visit by Georgi Mahmurov, a Russian entrepreneur and co-founder of AlmaCard.ru, who runs a similar business for Moscow students.

Chris Cooper, managing director of Spotamo Ltd, said: “Working with Georgi has really benefitted our businesses and within minutes of meeting him, we started to share new ideas and discuss our current challenges.

“We have had a lot of support from Rotherham Investment and Development Office setting up our business and this exchange visit has really helped us to develop our plan to grow the business throughout the UK.”

Spotamo has been supported by RiDO’s Soft Landing Zone project which helps Rotherham companies to access international markets as well as foreign investors who choose to locate to RiDO’s business centres.

The exchange was a result of project manager Amanda Parris’ visit to the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO).

The project is supported financially by the European Union.
