Early morning bungalow blaze

FIRE crews tackled an early morning blaze at a pensioner’s North Anston home.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue (SYFR) were called to the semi-detached bungalow on Wentworth Way at 7.20am on Friday (25) morning.

A spokeswoman for SYFR said the whole roof of the property was well alight and crews from Aston, Maltby and Rotherham attended.

An elderly lady in her 70s was already out of the property when crews arrived and the fire was believed to have started in the loft area due to an electrical fault.

The aerial ladder platform was used to reach the fire in the roof void.

The spokeswoman added: “Firefighters used hose reels to extinguish the fire and worked hard to prevent the fire from spreading to the adjoining property.”

Crews left the scene around 10.30am.
