BIG LOCAL: Thurcroft Big Local Gala – more than 700 people attended on August 30 at the cricket field in Thurcroft. Diane Oxley, of the Thurcroft Gala organisers, said: “Our committee has been preparing for this gala all year and we were pleased that for most of the afternoon the sun shone and the day turned out to be a great one. Thurcroft Gala gets better every year and 2015 has been the best so far.” The event was organised by Thurcroft Local, which is run by and for local residents. Funding was made possible through a Big Lottery Fund investment and managed by Local Trust supported by Rotherham Federation of Communities Ltd (Rotherfed).

 

CRAFT GROUP: Members worked on their sewing, crocheting, knitting, on the jewellery table. die cutting, rubber stamping, decoupage and putting general cards together.

 

THURCROFT THEATRE GROUP: Thurcroft Cabaret 2015 is running from October 13-17 at Gordon Bennett Memorial Hall. Tickets £13.50, available from George Walker 01709 700773.

PARISH COUNCIL: Met on September 24. The minutes of the special meeting held on September 1 were approved. The chairman reported on progress relating to vegetation cutback and equipment removal at Brampton en le Morthen recreation ground. Further reference was made to consideration of replacement equipment options by Cllr Ainsworth in conjunction with Brampton residents. The clerk suggested that Cllr Ainsworth commence a dialogue with Stewart Kenny of RMBC and Cllr Alsop to investigate if contact with potential contractors relating to the Hangsman Lane recreation ground improvement initiative could be beneficial. Resolved that the current position be noted. Mrs T Lee of Dinnington, appeal against decision to deny the erection of a grave cover slab at Thurcroft – the chairman and clerk visited the cemetery. The open plan has been adhered to. People are still putting surrounds round without council permission. There are eight runs from the bottom on the left hand side, and eight runs on the right hand signs. Notice: dated September 26: no surrounds allowed past this notice, nor pots or vases to stand at the side of the headstones. Any surrounds put in will be removed by Thurcroft Parish Council. It was resolved that information from SLCC 2015 Regional Roadshow, at Brighouse, West Yorkshire, to be held on November 4 be received. The request for financial assistance from Aughton Early Years Centre be referred to the Annual Grants allocation meeting for consideration. RMBC – Town and Country Planning Act: it was resolved that the appeal under Section 78 re land at The Crescent, Thurcroft be noted. That this council do not wish to add to its original objection and will await the secretary of state’s decision. RMBC: it was resolved that the parish election costs be noted. Thurcroft Welfare Training Band: it was resolved that the change of musical director to Andrew Mee be noted. Thurcroft Friday Group and Thurcroft PCC: it was resolved that the letters of thanks for financial assistance be received. Use of football pitch Gallows FC: it was resolved that the request for payment to be deferred until later in the financial year and be referred to the chair of the Recreation Committee Cllr Mrs D Andrews. Cllr Ainsworth reported on the dangerous state of the footpath along Brampton Road approaching Brampton en le Morthen from Thurcroft. Clerk’s report: he had attended the annual conference for Rural Action Yorkshire. The next meeting is on October 29 at Gordon Bennett Memorial Hall 6.30pm.

 

ROTHER VALE COMMUNITY BAND: Practise on Saturday mornings at St Simon and St Jude’s Parish Church 9.30-11am. New members will be provided with a brass instrument and expert tuition for a weekly subscription of £2. Contact Pam 07759 496810, www.rothervalecommunityband.com.

LITTLE SAINTS TODDLER GROUP: Moira and Irene assisted the young children as they played with Happyland toys and the slide.

 

FRIDAY CLUB: Moira, Irene, Marie, and mums assisted the young ones as they played games including matching flags with the countries who played in the World Rugby Cup.

 

THURCROFT WELFARE BAND: The band played last Saturday at St Simon and St Jude’s Parish Church. It was an evening of brass band and jazz music with the Thurcroft Welfare Training Band and Doncaster Youth Stageband. Thurcroft Band practises take place each Tuesday and Thursday evening 7.15pm. Training Band trains on Saturday mornings. Both train at the Band Room at the top of West Street.
