SERVE YOUR COMMUNITY: Another vacancy has arisen on Bawtry Town Council (BTC) due to the resignation of Cllr Jennifer Worthington. Residents will have the chance to cast their vote at an election for a new councillor if at least ten electors write in and request that a poll be held. If a poll is not requested then the potential candidates who write to BTC and express an interest will be considered by the other 12 members of BTC who will select and co-opt the most suitable candidate to serve until May 2021.

 

SADDLING UP FOR T’CUP: Polo enthusiasts are looking forward to the fifth annual Visit Bawtry Charity Polo Cup being staged at the Vale of York, Highwood Farm at Misson on July 3. The event, which will raise money for Aurora Cancer Care, is one of the largest polo tournaments in the North of England. It is expected that this year’s event will attract over 1,000 spectators. This year’s team sponsors are The Crown Hotel, China Rose Cantonese Restaurant, Robinson’s of Bawtry, Fine and Country, The Vanilla Rooms, Lash and Nail Boutique, Origin Broadband and Glow Company. A table for ten will cost £250 in the special hospitality marquee. It is £25 for the car park and £5 per person entrance. There will be a bar and catering facilities on site. The gates open noon with polo matches starting 2pm.

TREASURE HUNT: The South Yorkshire Federation of Women’s Institutes has organised a heritage treasure hunt in Bawtry on June 25. Members and their friends attending from WIs across the region meet at Bawtry Methodist Church on the corner of Doncaster Road and Station Road 6.30pm. Each WI is allowed one competing team. Entry fee £26 per team. Visitors welcome £6.50.

 

PENSIONERS SPECIAL: Senior citizens in Bawtry have been invited to attend the Pensioners Celebration Lunch at the China Rose Cantonese Restaurant on June 26. The free limited numbers event celebrates the 25th anniversary of the restaurant located on the corner of South Parade and Gainsborough Road. To be eligible you must be a pensioner and a Bawtry resident. Applications to attend the lunch must be received at China Rose by June 10.

 

OPENING TIMES: Customers of the town’s branch of the National Westminster Bank have been advised of the change in opening hours. The branch on High Street is now open 10am-4pm Monday-Friday and closed Saturday.

 

THEATRE NEEDS YOU: Bawtry’s Phoenix Theatre is on the look out for new members interested in getting involved in acting or taking up one of the many backstage roles. Lots of skills are needed to produce the regular plays of Bawtry Amateur Dramatic Society (BADS). Contact BADS member Steve Kellett [email protected].
