RESIDENTS MEET: Members of Bawtry Residents Group (BRG) that attended their latest meeting in the Leger Suite at The Crown Hotel heard that a good working relationship is being developed with Bawtry Town Council. The group hopes that in future these community relationships may be developed through regular community forums. The group has also formed a working relationship with DMBC Rossington and Bawtry ward councillor Rachel Blake. BRG was formed at the end of last year to work alongside Bawtry Town Council and Bawtry Retail Association and act as a voice for all Bawtry residents on issues. Group members want to actively engage with the community and to effect the necessary improvements in the town for householders and business people. The development of a Bawtry Neighbourhood Plan presents an opportunity to bring the community together and seek the views of residents and businesses. A Bawtry Neighbourhood Plan consultation exercise is being co-ordinated by the steering group set up by Bawtry Town Council and headed by Cllr David Kirkham and will continue assessing information over the next 12 months. BRG has put forward a number of actions that it feels are necessary to improve the image of the town. These include improved town boundary signs, the 30mph speed limit extended to the town boundaries, improved grass cutting standards and street sweeping, litter-free environment with appropriate litter bin provision, quality flower beds and planters and hanging baskets on lamp columns, all fronting hedges adequately maintained so as to improve footpath widths and to remove obscured signage, highway verge maintenance particularly fronting Bawtry Hall and the war memorial, potential landscaping to the frontage of Hudson’s Yard on Doncaster Road, removal of old untidy guard rail at the corner of Ingham Road and edging back of verges to reinstate proper footpath width. Following many complaints about litter and dog fouling it has been suggested that BRG organises regular community litter picks. The founder members of BRG John Linsley and David Kirkham both now serve as Bawtry town councillors and look likely to stand down from their positions of chairman and vice-chairman of BRG at the AGM on November 26. As a result the group is on the lookout for members who can fill the two positions. Nominations will be invited at the meeting for a secretary and a treasurer.
