My world: Comic Relief brings back fond memories...

Comic Relief used to be the time of year when celebrities got together to do stupid stuff, you were allowed to stay up past your bedtime to watch it and it was non-uniform day at school, (as long as you paid a pound).

I can remember being a kid and spending Comic Relief with my grandparents, watching the celebs get covered in slime or doing a dance-off.

It was brilliant, it was something to look forward to.

But these days it seems to be nothing new.

It’s not that I don’t like it any more, it’s just a little bit like Christmas in that, for an adult, the novelty of it all wears off.

That’s a shame because the cause is fantastic, and I do like to donate where I can.

But all the commotion that surrounds it has lost its appeal.

I can remember being in primary school and me and my friends set up a murder mystery around the school grounds for Comic Relief.

People paid 50p to take part, and we had live actors and everything it was an amazing tour of blood, murder and clues.

All of this and we didn’t have to wear our school jumper for the day could it be any better?

Of course it’s not aimed at me any more much like Christmas.

It is aimed at the younger generation and as long as it works them up into a frenzy then it is filling its brief pretty successfully.

And as long as the celebs and their crazy antics get people donating, then it’s job done.

I just wonder whether these events are getting a little diluted? Whether the message behind them is still as loud and as clear as it has always been?

Sport Relief, Children in Need, Comic Relief, the list goes on...

I just hope that people remember what the money is being raised for and much like Christmas, that the story behind the fun doesn’t get forgotten...
