Stuart’s memory will live on

Stuart’s family have launched the Start a Heart campaign in honour of the 68-year-old, who died suddenly at a Rotary Club meeting in May.

Daughter Carrie Platt said: “Dad touched so many people during his life both through Rotary and his time with Rotherham Rep and we were determined for that to continue after his death.

“We wanted something positive to come out of what happened to him.”

Sitwell Rotary Club member Andrew Bates teamed up with the Carlton Park Hotel, where Stuart died, to provide a defibrillator and training for staff.

The Rotary Club is also planning to help raise funds for the appeal, which would see the vital life-saving equipment placed in public places around Rotherham in special cabinets, which could be opened in case of emergencies.

The campaign kicks off in earnest on Sunday with a family fun day backed by the Rotary club at the Woodman pub in Woodlaithes from noon until 8pm.

Start a Heart Sunday will feature various stalls, games and activities such as hook-a-duck, coconut shy, a human fruit machine and face painting.

There will also be a raffle, auction, two live bands, a solo singer and a DJ, plus cake stalls and a barbecue starting at 6pm.

There are still stalls available at the event at the Woodman in return for a £20 donation, with a marquee available in case of rain.
