Howard Webb promotes free football coaching scheme for youngsters

WORLD Cup Final referee Howard Webb dropped in to the Dearne Valley to promote the third year of a free coaching programme.

The Sport FX project is a partnership between South Yorkshire Police, Barnsley Football Club and Barnsley Borough Council that will be delivering this year’s training scheme from August 19 to August 22 at the Dearne Advanced Learning Centre, on Goldthorpe Road, Goldthorpe.

Howard joined up with a team from the Goldthorpe Safer Neighbourhood Team, during a day of action in Thurnscoe last week, to promote the scheme which is open to youngsters aged between nine and 19 years old.

Regular Sport FX football training for youngsters are also run by qualified coaches from Barnsley Football Club, at the Advanced Learning Centre, on Friday evenings throughout the year.

Up to 100 children have been known to take part in the coaching sessions, which cater for nine to 13-year-olds between 6pm and 7.30pm and 14 to 19-year-olds between 7.30pm and 9pm.
