Future of kids’ centre put on hold

THE FUTURE of a children’s residential centre in Filey used by generations of young people from Rotherham has been put on hold by council commissioners.

An on-line petition was launched to save Rotherham Borough Council-owned Habershon House residential house in Primrose Valley and schoolchildren were writing letters and making posters to alert people to the closure threat.

But consultation over a possible sell-off was dramatically halted by commissioners, saying it had proceeded without formal authorisation.

“No decision has or will be made about the site’s future without formal consideration by the commissioners, supported by discussions with elected members,” said a council spokeswoman.
