Honour for swimming champ

ROTHERHAM swimmer Joe Roebuck is set to be inducted into a new Hall of Fame honouring the success of South Yorkshire's elite athletes.

The 29-year-old European and Commonwealth medallist will be welcomed into South Yorkshire Sport's Hall of Fame at a special event which is also celebrating the start of the 2015 South Yorkshire Sainsbury's School Games.

Schools from across Barnsley will come together for an opening ceremony at Honeywell Sports Centre, in Barnsley, on Wednesday, before competing in a School Games Sports Hall Athletics qualifying competition.

Simon Pugh, development manager at South Yorkshire Sport, which organises the Games, said: "We're proud to be inducting Joe Roebuck into our new Hall of Fame. He has been one of GB's most consistent swimmers over the last decade and a great example of what you can achieve with hard work and talent. We hope he inspires the many youngsters who will be taking part in the event."
