How many abusers are we hiding?

THE talk in the town now is: “How many paedophiles are we hiding if 1,400 children were abused?”

In order to estimate this, I looked at the figures for West Yorkshire:

In Keighley, 28 men were charged with abusing four girls.

In Calderdale, 31 men were charged with abusing two girls.

In Leeds, 12 men were charged with abusing one girl.

This means a total of 71 men were charged for abusing a total of seven girls.

If the proportions are the same in Rotherham, then we are looking for 14,200 men for abusing 1400 girls.

Even if this number is incredibly high, it strongly suggests that the number of child abusers could be far higher than we would expect.

Perhaps the Brentford fans were not far off the mark when they chanted a few weeks ago: “You're just a town full of paedos”.

When are we going to get a few hundred in the net?
