The menu had plenty of choice, with at least an extra five meals to choose from on the specials board.

I ordered the ‘chicken stack’ which comprised of a large chicken breast smothered in bacon and cheese, accompanied with a plentiful portion of chunky home cooked chips.

My partner opted for the surf and turf, a mix of steak and scampi, artistically arranged with golden chunky chips and a peppercorn sauce.

We didn't manage to squeeze in a pudding—the generous portions were plenty enough, but from what I could see, the dessert menu looked just at enticing as the mains.

When looking around the room, it was obvious that other diners go there because they enjoy good quality food.

The Elephant and Castle also host a range of event nights including pie, curry and quiz nights which seemed to be a popular talking point amongst the regular diners.

Service was attentive without the pressure to order more, so after polishing off our meal we settled in the bar area.

The leather settees and open log fire created a warm and inviting place to relax after our meal.
